‘Seen Some Of My Childhood Heroes’: Jasprit Bumrah Opens Up on Grabbing Multiple ICC Honours

Jasprit Bumrah has been a stalwart for India across all three formats of cricket. Despite persistent injury issues, which ruled him out of the Champions Trophy 2025 due to a back problem, Bumrah continues to shine as one of India’s premier bowlers.

### Multiple ICC Honours for Bumrah

The 31-year-old bowler was recently named the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year and ICC Men’s Test Player of the Year. He was also included in the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year and ICC T20I Team of the Year. Bumrah’s consistent performance has made him a constant fixture in the Indian playing XI.

Ahead of the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan clash in Dubai, Bumrah received his ICC awards. Expressing his delight, he said, “It feels really good. As a child, I’d seen some of my childhood heroes win this (Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy) award. Always a privilege when you get such an honour.”

### A Special Year for Bumrah

Bumrah had a remarkable year in 2024, claiming 86 wickets in 21 matches (Tests and T20Is), including 71 wickets in red-ball cricket. He also played a crucial role in leading India to victory in the T20 World Cup, ending their prolonged title drought by defeating South Africa in the final.

Reflecting on the year, Bumrah said, “The T20 World Cup which we won is always going to be special and will be there in my mind. Obviously, a lot of learnings in my mind in the year as well. We played a lot of Test cricket, we got to know a lot of different experiences, so yeah, I’m very happy and hopefully better things will follow.”

### Road to Recovery

Bumrah is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) with the aim of regaining match fitness before the highly anticipated IPL clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians on March 23.

As Bumrah continues his recovery, the cricketing world eagerly anticipates his return to the field, hoping to see more of his exceptional performances.
