Hyderabad: Renowned playback singer Kalpana Raghavender, who was hospitalized following an accidental overdose of sleeping pills, has been declared out of danger by medical professionals. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, with the singer being admitted to Holistic Hospital around 5:30 PM.
Dr. Chaitanya, a senior physician at the hospital, confirmed that Kalpana was placed on ventilatory support due to fluid accumulation in her lungs and an underlying infection. “She remained on ventilation for 12 hours, but her condition has since stabilized, and the ventilator has been removed,” he stated.
Kalpana’s daughter, Daya Prasad Prabhakar, clarified that the overdose was unintentional and not a suicide attempt. “My mother has been juggling her singing career, LLB studies, and PhD research, which has led to severe insomnia. The prescribed medication resulted in an accidental overdose,” she explained.
The singer’s husband, Prasad Prabhakar, traveled from Chennai to be by her side. Meanwhile, local authorities have acknowledged the overdose but have refrained from confirming any suspicions of a suicide attempt, stating that investigations are ongoing.
Kalpana Raghavender, a celebrated artist in the Tollywood industry, is currently under medical supervision as doctors monitor her recovery. Her family has urged the public and media to refrain from spreading misinformation and emphasized that the incident was purely accidental.
The singer is expected to make a full recovery and return to her professional and academic pursuits soon.
