Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has offered strong words of support for Gautam Gambhir, praising the current Team India head coach for his passion, transparency, and deep respect for senior players. Speaking ahead of India’s crucial Test series against England, Ganguly reflected on Gambhir’s evolution as a leader and his early challenges in the coaching role.
“Gautam is doing a good job. He started off a little slow, losing to Australia and New Zealand, but he picked up with the Champions Trophy. This is going to be a big series,” Ganguly told PTI.
🏏 A Coach with Clarity and Character
Ganguly, who played alongside Gambhir during their international careers, described him as “very straightforward” and someone who “sees things clearly”. He emphasized that Gambhir’s coaching style reflects his playing days—honest, intense, and team-first.
“He’s very open about what he feels—about the team, players, people, everything. From the outside, you can tell he’s a very transparent person—what you see is what you get,” Ganguly added.
🙏 Respect for Seniors and Dressing Room Culture
Recalling their time together in the Indian dressing room, Ganguly highlighted Gambhir’s respectful demeanor toward senior players, calling him “a great guy” who valued experience and tradition.
