Tata Power’s Nellai plant, operated by its solar manufacturing arm TP Solar, has set a rare benchmark in India’s renewable energy sector by achieving record-breaking production and fostering workforce diversity.
Record-Breaking Production
The Tirunelveli-based facility produced 3.3 gigawatts (GW) of solar modules and 846 megawatts (MW) of solar cells in FY25, marking one of the highest domestic outputs in India’s solar industry. The plant has emerged as a key pillar of Tata Power’s clean energy ambitions, reinforcing India’s drive toward energy self-reliance.
Workforce Diversity and Inclusive Growth
In a rare achievement for Indian manufacturing, over 80% of the plant’s employees are women from local communities. This milestone highlights Tata Power’s commitment to inclusive industrial growth, setting new standards in gender diversity within the renewable energy sector.
Financial Performance
The Nellai plant delivered ₹5,337 crore in revenue and recorded a profit of ₹422 crore after tax reductions in FY25. The facility’s success underscores the economic viability of large-scale solar manufacturing in India.
Future Prospects
With India’s renewable energy targets expanding, Tata Power’s Nellai plant is expected to play a crucial role in meeting the country’s solar capacity goals. The company continues to invest in advanced solar technologies, reinforcing its position as a leader in sustainable energy solutions.
