In a major crackdown on cross-border crime, the Border Security Force (BSF) in Tripura has successfully foiled multiple smuggling attempts along the India-Bangladesh international border, seizing contraband worth over ₹20 lakh and arresting five suspects.
Key Operations and Seizures
- On June 14, BSF personnel at the Dholakcheri Border Outpost (South Tripura) apprehended five cattle smugglers and rescued 12 cattle.
- All arrested individuals are residents of South Tripura and Gomati districts.
- In a separate operation at Nirbhoypur Border Outpost (West Tripura), BSF troops seized 47 brand-new mobile phones valued at approximately ₹10 lakh, which were being smuggled into Bangladesh.
BSF’s Swift Action Prevents Cross-Border Crime
Officials confirmed that the smugglers attempted to throw the mobile consignment over the border fence, but BSF’s quick response thwarted the plan. The seized items include foreign goods and electronics, indicating a well-organized smuggling network operating in the region.
Enhanced Vigilance and New Uniforms for BSF
- The BSF is also set to introduce new uniforms with 80% cotton and 20% polyester, designed for better comfort in humid climates like the Northeast.
- The updated attire will feature a revised color scheme, improved fabric, and enhanced insignia, boosting operational efficiency.
Future Outlook
With heightened surveillance and intelligence-based operations, the BSF continues to play a crucial role in securing India’s eastern borders, especially in Tripura, a known hotspot for cross-border smuggling.
