The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has presented a ₹476.55 crore budget for the financial year 2025-26, marking an increase of ₹60 crore from the previous year’s allocation. The budget, tabled by Mayor Dipak Majumder, is tax-free and reflects a minor deficit of ₹72 lakh, which the AMC plans to bridge through enhanced revenue collection rather than imposing new taxes.
Key Allocations:
- ₹56 lakh earmarked for a modern slaughterhouse at Durga Chowmuhani, aimed at phasing out open slaughter practices in markets and street-side vending zones.
- ₹28 crore allocated for three flood pump houses at Shakuntala Road, Ramnagar Road No. 4, and Satsanga, to tackle waterlogging issues.
- ₹10 crore set aside for a 50-bed Civil Hospital at Jackson Gate, aimed at reducing the burden on IGM Hospital.
- ₹2 crore allocated for a new Bharatmata Canteen-cum-Night Shelter, providing subsidized meals and accommodation.
- ₹5 crore designated for development in extended municipal areas.
The budget also includes funding for road renovations, streetlight installations, and mosquito fogging measures to improve urban infrastructure and public health. Mayor Majumder attributed the enhanced outlay to higher revenue income and significant grants from the Central and State Governments, including allocations under the 15th Finance Commission, Swachh Bharat Mission, PMAY (Urban), and Smart City Mission.
With a focus on cleanliness, healthcare, and urban development, the AMC aims to strengthen Agartala’s infrastructure while maintaining fiscal discipline.
