In a significant move aimed at delivering justice and rehabilitation, the Tripura government has provided permanent jobs to 18 individuals whose family members were victims of political killings. The initiative, led by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath, is part of a broader effort to support families affected by decades of political unrest in the state.
🏛️ A Step Toward Restorative Justice
The appointments were made following recommendations from a high-level scrutiny committee, chaired by Nath and comprising senior bureaucrats and police officials. The committee has so far received 39 applications, with 18 approved and others under review.
“This initiative reflects our commitment to democratic values. We have not discriminated based on political affiliations—eligibility is the sole criterion,” Nath stated.
📋 Transparent Selection Process
- Applications are vetted based on reports from District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police
- Final recommendations are processed by the Finance Department based on vacancy availability
- The scheme covers cases dating back to the late 1990s, not limited to recent incidents
🗣️ Political Context and Legacy
Nath criticized previous regimes, particularly the Left Front government, for failing to curb political violence during their 25-year rule. He claimed that many families were unable to even file FIRs, and several case records remain missing.
The BJP-led government, in power since 2018, has emphasized that the initiative is non-partisan and rooted in administrative fairness.
