Tripura to Launch ‘Cashless Medical Scheme 2025’ for Road Accident Victims

In a major step toward strengthening emergency healthcare and road safety, the Tripura government is set to roll out the ‘Cashless Medical Scheme for Road Accident Victims 2025’, Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced during the 16th State Road Safety Council meeting held at the State Secretariat in Agartala.

A Lifesaving Initiative for the Golden Hour

The scheme aims to provide immediate, cashless medical treatment to road accident victims during the critical “golden hour”—the first hour after a traumatic injury, which is crucial for saving lives. Victims will be eligible for free treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh for a period of up to 7 days at designated hospitals across the state.

Minister Chowdhury emphasized that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to valuing every human life. “Our goal is to ensure that no life is lost due to delays in medical care. This scheme will guarantee swift hospitalization and financial support for accident victims,” he said.

Key Features of the Scheme

  • Eligibility: Any road accident victim brought to a hospital within 24 hours of the incident.
  • Coverage: Treatment costs up to ₹1.5 lakh, including initial stabilization even at non-designated hospitals.
  • Access: Victims can be brought in by family members, police, ambulance staff, or Good Samaritans.
  • Implementation: Managed through the TMS online portal for real-time coordination, claim verification, and payment processing.
  • Funding: Supported by the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, with contributions from the Central Government and insurance companies.

Road Safety and Public Awareness

The minister also highlighted other road safety initiatives, including the deployment of interceptor vehicles with life support systems, awareness campaigns, and the Good Samaritan Scheme to encourage bystander assistance. Notably, Tripura recorded a 13% decline in road accidents last year, a testament to the state’s proactive safety measures.

Conclusion

With the Shraddhanjali scheme already in place to repatriate deceased citizens, and now the Cashless Medical Scheme 2025 on the horizon, Tripura is emerging as a model state in compassionate and responsive governance. The scheme is expected to be a game-changer in reducing fatalities and ensuring timely care for accident victims.
