India’s batting star Shubman Gill has expressed the team’s determination to move forward and treat the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as a fresh three-match series. Despite a dominant win in the first Test in Perth, India suffered a disappointing 10-wicket defeat in the second Test in Adelaide.
We are considering it as a three-match series: Shubman Gill
Gill during the pre-match press conference, admitted the disappointment of the Adelaide loss but stressed on the team’s positive mindset in the same breath. He highlighted the lively team dinner on Thursday, December 12 and the overall upbeat atmosphere within the camp. Gill also made it clear that the team is focused on the task at hand and is not carrying any baggage from the previous Test.
“The mood is very good in the camp. We had our team dinner only yesterday. We had a lot of fun during the dinner. Yes, the Adelaide Test did not go the way we wanted it to be. But, we are considering it as a three-match series. If we win this match, then in Melbourne and Sydney, we will have the upper hand,” Gill said in the pre-match press conference.
Shubman shared his nostalgic feelings upon returning to the Gabba, reflecting on the historic Test victory in 2021.
“Definitely, very nostalgic when I came here. The whole team came and just while walking through the stadium, it felt very nostalgic. The wicket I think, we will get to know, once we play on it. I think it will be a good wicket to play on,” he added.
India will look to bounce back in the third Test against Australia in Gabba which is scheduled to start from December 14.
Pat Cummins confirms big change in Australia’s playing XI for Gabba Test
Meanwhile, captains Pat Cummins have announced Australia’s playing XI for the third Test with a big change in their fold. Star pacer Josh Hazlewood, who missed the series opener, will make his way to the final XI replacing Scott Bolland, who put on a show in Adelaide with his impressive bowling.
“It’s tough, he was fantastic in Adelaide. He’s unfortunately spent a fair bit of time on the bench over the past 18 months. And whenever he’s played, he’s been fantastic. A shame for Scotty, but still a fair bit to play out in this series. I would be surprised if he doesn’t get another crack at some point,” Cummins said in the pre-match press conference.
“(We told him) it’s about preparing for the MCG because there’s a good chance we might need you. History suggests there’s always some form of natural attrition throughout a Test series. A good thing is, he’s probably played a Test earlier in the series than he maybe thought. Showed that his standards still super high. [It’s] about trying to set him up for the last two Test matches,” he added
Australia’s playing XI:
Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitch Marsh, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood
