WhatsApp May Soon Introduce Log-Out Feature Without Deleting Account

WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new log-out feature that will allow users to sign out of their primary account without deleting the app or losing their data. This much-requested update was spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta version (2.25.17.37) and is expected to roll out to beta testers soon.

How the New Log-Out Feature Works

Currently, WhatsApp only allows users to log out from linked devices like desktops and tablets. However, the new feature will introduce a dedicated log-out option under Settings > Account, offering three choices:

  • Erase all Data & Preferences – Completely wipes chats, media, and settings from the device.
  • Keep all Data & Preferences – Logs out while preserving all chats, media files, and app settings, allowing users to resume usage seamlessly.
  • Cancel – Exits the process without making any changes.

Why This Feature Matters

Until now, users who wanted to temporarily leave WhatsApp had to either uninstall the app or delete their account, risking data loss unless they manually backed up their chats. The upcoming log-out option will provide greater flexibility, making it easier for users to take a digital break, troubleshoot app issues, or switch between multiple accounts on the same device.

Expected Rollout and Availability

The feature is currently undergoing internal testing and may be made available to beta testers in the coming months before a wider release. Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, has not yet announced an official launch date, but experts predict it will be introduced in a future stable update.
