Why will India-made hydrogen fuel trains be more powerful than its global competitors?

Indian Railways has achieved a significant milestone with the development of the world’s most powerful hydrogen fuel-run train engine. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced recently emphasising its exceptional horsepower output and the use of indigenous technology.

While only four countries globally have successfully created hydrogen-powered trains, their engines generate a horsepower range of 500 to 600. In stark contrast, the Indian Railways’ hydrogen engine delivers an unmatched 1,200 horsepower, making it the most powerful in its category. This technological breakthrough underscores India’s commitment to sustainable innovation and its ability to surpass global standards. Powered by indigenous expertise, the engine combines efficiency and performance, setting a new benchmark in the hydrogen-powered transportation sector.
