Marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between India and China, Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for a “Dragon-Elephant tango” to symbolize harmonious coexistence and mutual progress. In a message to Indian President Droupadi Murmu, Xi emphasized the importance of strategic cooperation and peaceful coexistence between the two nations, both of which are ancient civilizations and major developing countries.
Xi highlighted the need for both countries to view their relationship from a long-term perspective, focusing on mutual trust, benefit, and common development. He expressed readiness to enhance communication and coordination on major international affairs and to jointly safeguard peace along the shared border areas. The Chinese President also underscored the significance of promoting a multipolar world and greater democracy in international relations.
President Murmu, in her response, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that a stable and friendly bilateral relationship would benefit not only the two nations but also the global community. She proposed using the milestone anniversary as an opportunity to strengthen ties and foster steady development in India-China relations.
The exchange of messages comes amid efforts to reset bilateral ties following tensions over the 2020 border standoff in eastern Ladakh. Both nations have engaged in high-level diplomatic and military talks to address the disputes, signaling a potential shift toward de-escalation.
This milestone anniversary serves as a reminder of the complex yet crucial relationship between the two neighboring giants, as they navigate shared challenges and opportunities on the global stage.
