YouTube is adding new mood filters to its Music app to enhance users’ experience. The new mood filter will help users search and stream different types of music depending on their mood.
Initially, YouTube added the Workout, Focus, Relax, Commute, Energise, and Podcasts sections in 2020. However, according to reports, YouTube will soon add more mood filters, including one called “Cry,” which will have its own “Sad Songs Supermix” to console and make users feel emotionally connected with music.
Other than “Cry,” the new YouTube Music filters will also include Romance, Party, Feel Good, and Sleep, which will curate playlists tailored to the user’s emotional state. These playlists can be found within the app under “Mixed for You” and “From Your Library,” alongside the familiar carousels like “Listen Again” and “Similar To.” According to a report by 9to5Google, the new filters in YouTube Music were first discovered by some Reddit users, who mentioned its availability for both YouTube Music web and app version.
Reportedly, the introduction of this new feature seems to be happening through a server-side rollout. Currently, on the web version, the 4 new filters are accessible, excluding “CRY.” However, it’s expected that remaining filters will join the lineup in the near future, and this expansion should happen swiftly across both web and mobile applications.
Notably, the last update to YouTube Music was in 2021, when YouTube added a new mood filter called “Energise” and made mood filters available on the web app. The latest additions bring the total number of mood filters to eleven, which could be a significant addition to the YouTube Music (YTM) user interface. However, it’s worth noting that the main YouTube app also has many filters and topics that dynamically change the Home feed.
Meanwhile, Last month, YouTube also launched a new feature called Samples. This feature is a personalised feed of short music video segments that helps users discover new music to listen to. Samples is powered by YouTube Music’s vast library of music videos, so there’s always something new to find.
With each sample, users can quickly add the song to their collection, share it with friends, create a new playlist, start a new radio station, watch the full video, visit the album page, or even use the song to create their own Short. For artists, the Samples tab provides a new way to reach new fans and build a community on YouTube.
