In response to the escalating India-Pakistan conflict, the Meghalaya government has relocated 70 students from Punjab and Haryana to Meghalaya House in New Delhi for their safety.
Government’s Swift Action
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma confirmed the relocation, stating that authorities are working to ensure the well-being of students amid growing concerns. He added that more students are expected to arrive in the coming days.
The state government has also issued an advisory to parents, urging them to evacuate children studying in states bordering Pakistan at the earliest.
Security Concerns and Travel Disruptions
Officials highlighted that several flights from Punjab and Haryana have been canceled, making evacuation a priority. The Meghalaya government is coordinating with educational institutions and transport authorities to facilitate safe movement for students.
Regional Response to the Crisis
Other northeastern states, including Tripura and Nagaland, have also taken measures to support students studying in northern India. The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has urged the Nagaland government to establish mechanisms for swift evacuation, citing concerns over airport closures.
Future Measures
The Meghalaya government continues to monitor the situation closely, ensuring that students receive necessary assistance during this period of uncertainty.
