India Real Estate GDP Contribution Projected to Reach 20 Percent by 2047

The real estate sector in India is poised for massive expansion over the coming decades. According to industry expert Gulam Zia from Knight Frank, the economic contribution of the property market could nearly triple by the middle of the century.

Economic Contribution Growth

At present, real estate accounts for approximately 8 to 9 percent of the national gross domestic product. Projections indicate this share could climb significantly to reach between 15 and 20 percent by the year 2047.

Diversified Sector Expansion

This anticipated growth will not be driven by a single asset class. Instead, it relies on broad expansion across multiple segments. Key growth areas include residential housing, commercial office spaces, warehousing, logistics infrastructure, as well as specialized facilities in education and healthcare.

Navigating Market Headwinds

Despite the highly optimistic long-term outlook, the industry is not without its challenges. Market analysts emphasize that various operational and economic headwinds will persist, requiring strategic adaptation from developers, investors, and policymakers as the sector scales toward its 2047 targets.
