A Brand New Hub for Local Artisans
Assam has taken a significant step toward empowering its traditional artisan community with the launch of a brand new facility in the Upper Brahmaputra region. The Handloom Trade Centre, situated strategically at Chowkidinghee close to the ASTC Bus Terminal in Dibrugarh, officially opened its doors on Wednesday.
Leadership and Official Inauguration
The formal opening ceremony was led by Biswajit Daimary, who serves as the state minister for Handloom, Textiles, and Sericulture. His presence underscored the high-level commitment of the administration toward fostering sustainable growth within the traditional textile and handloom sectors.
Financial Investment and Funding Partners
Realizing this ambitious infrastructure project required substantial financial commitment. The facility was constructed with a total investment amounting to Rs 991.70 lakh. Funding for the initiative came through a collaborative financial framework supported jointly by the North Eastern Council alongside the Government of Assam.
Empowering the Regional Weaving Sector
Traditional weaving forms a core pillar of the cultural and economic identity of the region. The newly established trade facility is specifically designed to provide essential support systems for local weavers, traders, and entrepreneurs engaged in the textile industry. By offering a dedicated space for commerce, networking, and resource sharing, the infrastructure aims to streamline market access and elevate the standard of living for numerous artisan families who depend entirely on their weaving crafts for livelihood.
