Putin to Visit India: Strengthening Strategic Ties Amid Global Challenges

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India soon, marking his first trip to the country since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in February 2022. The visit, confirmed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, comes in response to an invitation extended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Russia last year.

Lavrov emphasized the symbolic nature of this visit, stating, “Prime Minister Modi made his first foreign visit after re-election to Russia. Now, it’s our turn.” While the exact dates remain undisclosed, preparations are underway for what is expected to be a significant diplomatic engagement.

The visit underscores the enduring strategic partnership between India and Russia, which has withstood the test of time and geopolitical shifts. Key areas of focus are likely to include defense cooperation, energy collaboration, and discussions on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. The two nations are also expected to explore opportunities for co-development and co-production of advanced defense technologies under India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

This visit holds particular importance as it comes at a time when global trade dynamics are shifting, and India continues to maintain a balanced stance on the Ukraine crisis. The meeting is anticipated to further strengthen bilateral ties and expand economic cooperation, which already exceeds $60 billion annually.
