Tripura Police Seize ₹4 Crore Worth of Yaba Tablets Near Assam Border, One Arrested

In a major breakthrough against cross-border drug trafficking, Tripura Police have seized 80,000 Yaba tablets worth over ₹4 crore at the Churaibari Check Post near the Assam-Tripura border. The operation, conducted on June 15, led to the arrest of 24-year-old Sanjay Sahani, a resident of Churaibari, who was driving the vehicle carrying the contraband.

Police Action & Investigation

Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a mini-truck and discovered the tablets concealed in eight secret packets. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigations are underway to uncover the broader smuggling network.

Part of State’s Anti-Drug Drive

North Tripura SP Avinash Rai confirmed that the operation aligns with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s “Nasha Mukti Tripura” initiative, aimed at eradicating drug trafficking from the state.

This is one of the largest drug hauls in Tripura in recent months, underscoring the growing challenge of narcotics smuggling through the Northeast corridor.
