Assam CM Graces Centenary Celebration of Ramakrishna Mission in Silchar

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the grand centenary celebrations of the Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama in Silchar, marking a historic milestone for the esteemed institution. The event, held on March 18, 2025, also featured the inauguration of the newly constructed Universal Temple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansadeva.

A Tribute to Spiritual Legacy

During the ceremony, CM Sarma paid homage to Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansadeva and extended his heartfelt greetings to Swami Ganadhishananda, the secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Silchar. The Chief Minister lauded the mission’s century-long contributions to spiritual enlightenment and humanitarian service in the region.

The event was graced by prominent dignitaries, including Swami Gautamananda Ji Maharaj, President of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Belur Math, and Swami Girishananda Ji Maharaj, Vice President of the organization. Their presence underscored the significance of the occasion.

Government Support Announced

In recognition of the mission’s efforts, CM Sarma announced a financial grant of ₹5 crore for the Ma Sarada Charitable Dispensary, a key initiative of the Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama Hospital. Additionally, the state government pledged ₹4 crore to clear the outstanding debt incurred during the construction of the Universal Temple. These contributions reflect the government’s commitment to supporting institutions that serve humanity.

A Historic Institution

Established in 1915, the Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama in Silchar has been a beacon of spiritual and social upliftment. Affiliated with Belur Math since 1939, the mission has played a pivotal role in promoting the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Maa, and Swami Vivekananda.

The centenary celebrations, which included devotional songs, spiritual discourses, and cultural programs, highlighted the mission’s enduring legacy. The newly inaugurated Universal Temple stands as a testament to the mission’s dedication to fostering religious harmony and community service.

The event concluded with a message of unity and peace, resonating with the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna and inspiring attendees to uphold the values of compassion and service.
