Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for ushering in a historic transformation in the Northeastern region of India. Speaking at the Mopin Festival of the Galo tribe in Arunachal Pradesh, Sarma emphasized the unprecedented development in connectivity, infrastructure, and economic integration that the region has witnessed under Modi’s initiatives.
Sarma pointed out that prior to 2014, the Northeastern states faced inadequate infrastructure and investment, leaving them economically backward and geographically isolated. However, visionary programs like “Transformation through Transportation” and the “Act East Policy” have unlocked the region’s vast potential, positioning it as a gateway to Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing economies.
The Chief Minister also highlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s emergence as a leading hydrocarbon state and a major tourism hub for foreigners. He expressed optimism about resolving border disputes between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh during his tenure, further strengthening ties between the two states.
Sarma’s remarks underscore the Northeast’s journey from neglect to becoming a key player in India’s growth story, with aspirations to be one of the most developed regions in the country within the next two decades.
