The Assam government has announced a series of special measures to demonstrate solidarity with the armed forces, including austerity initiatives and comprehensive support for military families.
Key Decisions by the Assam Cabinet
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the government will defer all non-essential events, including seminars, workshops, conferences, and commemorative functions, to focus resources on supporting military personnel and their families.
Additionally, district administrations and Heads of Departments have been directed to maintain updated contact details of all staff members, while hospitals and health institutions will update their registry of voluntary blood donors, particularly those with rare blood types, to assist in emergencies.
Support for Military Families
The Assam government has pledged comprehensive assistance to the families of service personnel from the state. Officials will identify military families, form support groups, and ensure they receive necessary aid during this period.
Chief Minister Sarma emphasized that the government aims to ease the concerns of soldiers on active duty, ensuring that their families are well-supported while they serve at the frontlines.
Additional Measures and Coordination
To enhance preparedness, the government has decided to review fuel and medical inventories in hospitals to ensure adequate availability for emergencies. Field offices will maintain round-the-clock readiness to support any emergent requirements.
Furthermore, foreign travel and non-essential outstation tours for ministers and government officials have been restricted, and the procurement of vehicles, furniture, and office infrastructure has been paused.
