The Assam government has announced a series of austerity measures, including scaling down event spending and shifting to virtual meetings, in response to the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict.
Key Measures Implemented
The Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has decided to defer all non-essential events, including seminars, workshops, and commemorative functions. Official gatherings such as working lunches, dinners, and cultural programs will also be avoided to maintain fiscal discipline.
Additionally, foreign travel and non-essential outstation tours for ministers and government officials have been restricted. The procurement of vehicles, furniture, and office infrastructure has been paused, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently during this period.
Shift to Virtual Meetings
To minimize costs and enhance security preparedness, the government has directed departments to conduct meetings virtually, except for those related to essential services. Inaugurations, felicitation events, and ceremonial functions will be postponed, while advertising and publicity expenses will be limited to necessary public information.
Emergency Preparedness and Coordination
The Assam government has also taken steps to strengthen emergency response mechanisms. Hospitals and health institutions have been instructed to update their registry of voluntary blood donors, particularly those with rare blood types. Fuel and medical inventories are being reviewed to ensure readiness for any crisis.
Furthermore, district administrations and Heads of Departments have been tasked with maintaining updated contact details of all staff members. Field offices will operate round-the-clock to support any emergent requirements, while coordination between civil, police, and emergency services will be intensified.
