Assam on Cusp of Industrial Revolution, Says Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam has received investment proposals amounting to ₹5.14 lakh crore, which is “almost 80 percent of the state’s GDP,” confirmed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Assam’s GDP stands at ₹6.43 lakh crore as of March, highlighting the “unprecedented” interest from both foreign and domestic investors. Sarma asserted that the state “can become” a hub for cement, hydrocarbon, and green economy sectors.

### Key Outcomes of Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit

Sarma shared these insights on Friday while discussing the key outcomes of the two-day Advantage Assam 2.0 investment summit, which concluded on Wednesday. He emphasized that if the state can “develop the right absorption capacity,” Assam could potentially generate over 2 lakh jobs from the ₹5.14 lakh crore investment proposals received during the summit.

To ensure the summit’s success translates into tangible outcomes, the state government plans to “put in place a robust tracking mechanism that will scrutinize every proposal, evaluate its feasibility, and ensure follow-up,” Sarma said.

### Beneficiaries of International MoUs

According to Sarma, five state government departments have benefitted from international Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed at the summit. These departments include:

– *Industry:* ₹410 crore

– *Animal Husbandry:* ₹300 crore

– *Health:* ₹440 crore

– *Mines and Minerals:* ₹2,650 crore

– *Transport:* ₹120 crore

### Preparing for an Industrial Revolution

The chief minister stated that Assam is on the cusp of an industrial revolution, and the next few months will be devoted to preparing a roadmap for the timely execution of the MoUs. He also mentioned that the initial focus would be on MoUs related to education and skill development.

Sarma’s optimistic outlook underscores the potential for Assam to become a significant player in various industries, driven by substantial investments and strategic planning. As the state gears up for this transformation, the emphasis on job creation and economic growth remains at the forefront of its agenda.
