BJP MLA’s Allegations of ‘Suspicious Activity’ by Kashmiris in Bengal Rejected by Police

West Bengal Police have dismissed allegations made by BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari, who claimed that two Kashmiri men were involved in suspicious activities in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district. Adhikari had alleged that the individuals installed a NanoBeam 2AC wireless network bridge on their rooftop, suggesting it was part of a high-speed, long-distance connectivity device for suspicious purposes.

In an official statement, Baruipur Police clarified that the individuals in question are engineers from Madhya Pradesh, not Kashmir, and were exploring business opportunities in pisciculture in West Bengal. The police confirmed that the device installed on their rooftop was a Jio Fiber network, commonly used by households, and found no evidence of suspicious activity.

The police criticized Adhikari’s approach, stating, “It is unfortunate that some people choose to disseminate inaccurate and potentially inciteful information through social media, instead of communicating it to a state or central agency.” They emphasized the importance of verifying facts before making public accusations, warning that such actions could have legal consequences.

Adhikari’s remarks come in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, mostly tourists. His allegations have drawn criticism from opposition leaders, including Speaker Biman Banerjee, who accused him of attempting to instigate communal tensions.

As the situation unfolds, police have urged citizens to exercise restraint and responsibility when sharing information on public platforms.
