The Indian National Congress (INC) has announced the launch of a nationwide campaign called ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ (Save the Constitution), aimed at protecting India’s democratic values and safeguarding the Constitution against what the party describes as attacks from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The campaign will focus on educating the public about the importance of constitutional rights and the need to resist any moves that undermine these rights.
At a press conference, Congress leaders expressed their strong opposition to the policies and actions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Congress spokespersons accused the two leaders of having a “criminal mindset,” alleging that their decisions and governance style were eroding the democratic fabric of the nation. They specifically criticized the BJP government for what they termed as a systematic assault on constitutional institutions and civil liberties.
The Congress party’s leaders asserted that under the current government, fundamental rights are being compromised, and the independence of institutions such as the judiciary, election commission, and media is under threat. The ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ campaign, according to Congress, aims to unite citizens from all walks of life in defense of the Constitution, calling on them to actively engage in political discourse and ensure that India’s democracy remains intact.
The remarks against the Prime Minister and Home Minister have intensified the ongoing political battle between Congress and the BJP, with both parties exchanging sharp criticisms over the state of the nation’s governance. While the Congress party claims the current administration is undermining democratic principles, the BJP has consistently denied these accusations, defending its policies as in line with national interests.
The ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ campaign is expected to involve rallies, discussions, and public outreach programs across the country, as Congress seeks to rally public support ahead of upcoming elections. The party’s leadership has stressed that the campaign will not only focus on the ruling government but will also serve as a reminder to citizens of the constitutional values that have guided India since its independence.
