Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Assam on September 8, 2025, to inaugurate the year-long birth centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and to lay the foundation stones for several major infrastructure projects.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended a formal invitation to the Prime Minister during a meeting in New Delhi on April 19. The Prime Minister has accepted the invitation to attend the inaugural ceremony of the centenary celebrations, which will run from September 8, 2025, to September 8, 2026. The celebrations will include events across major cities such as Guwahati, New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Itanagar, highlighting Hazarika’s influence across India and beyond.
In addition to the centenary celebrations, PM Modi will inaugurate the Assam Bio-Ethanol Plant, which has a production capacity of 49 kilotons per annum (KTPA) of ethanol, utilizing 300 KTPA of bamboo as feedstock. He will also lay the foundation stones for the ₹5,700 crore Guwahati Ring Road project and the Darrang Medical College and Hospital.
The Guwahati Ring Road project aims to connect the northern and southern areas across the Brahmaputra through eastern Guwahati. The planned 55-km road, running from Baihata Chariali to Sonapur via Narengi, will feature four to six lanes encompassing the city and its outskirts. The project is set to conclude in December 2027.
The Darrang Medical College and Hospital is expected to enhance healthcare infrastructure in the region, improving medical services for the local population.
The Prime Minister’s visit is anticipated to be a significant event for Assam, marking a celebration of its cultural heritage and the commencement of vital infrastructure developments.
