Erling Haaland has delivered a brutally honest assessment of Manchester City’s season, branding it as “horrific” ahead of their FA Cup final clash against Crystal Palace at Wembley on May 17.
Haaland’s Frustration with City’s Performance
Despite winning four consecutive Premier League titles, City has struggled this season, sitting fourth in the league table with 65 points, just two ahead of Chelsea and Aston Villa. Their Champions League qualification remains uncertain, adding further pressure to their FA Cup final appearance.
“This season has been tough. It is not nice to lose so many games. It is boring and not fun. That’s why we need to finish well and get a trophy,” Haaland told BBC Sport.
FA Cup: A Chance for Redemption
City’s Premier League title defense collapsed, leaving the FA Cup as their last opportunity for silverware. Haaland emphasized the importance of winning trophies, stating, “It is a good habit to reach Wembley, and always important to win trophies. We have the FA Cup final to play for, and in a horrific season, we still managed to do this”.
Crystal Palace: A Formidable Opponent
Haaland acknowledged the challenge posed by Crystal Palace, who have impressed this season. “Crystal Palace are a really difficult club to play against. At Selhurst Park, we drew, and they started really well at the Etihad. They are an amazing team with quality players,” he added.
Guardiola’s Take on the Season
City manager Pep Guardiola has also admitted that this season has been disappointing, stating that no trophy would salvage the campaign after their Premier League title slip.
Looking Ahead
With Champions League qualification still hanging in the balance, City will be desperate to secure a victory against Palace and end their season on a high note. For Haaland, lifting the FA Cup would provide some consolation in what has been a frustrating campaign.
