Guwahati is poised to become a regional hospitality hub, with 11 new five-star hotels set to be developed across the city. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the ambitious expansion, highlighting its potential to boost tourism, attract global hospitality chains, and create employment opportunities.
The foundation stone for two Marriott International properties—Marriott Resort & Spa and Fairfield by Marriott—was laid on May 12, marking the beginning of a ₹500 crore investment. These hotels will be built on 76 bighas (over 25 acres) of land, strategically located to cater to both domestic and international travelers.
The hospitality expansion includes four additional Marriott hotels, two Taj properties, and one Lemon Tree hotel, alongside Radisson’s expansion by 100 more keys. The projects were initiated under the Advantage Assam 2.0 investment summit, which aims to strengthen Assam’s infrastructure and economic growth.
CM Sarma emphasized that the new hotels will enhance Assam’s tourism industry, particularly for destination weddings and business conferences. He noted that the Guwahati Marriott Resort and Spa will feature 196 rooms, while Fairfield by Marriott Guwahati will have 288 rooms, with completion expected within 36 to 48 months.
With Guwahati emerging as a preferred destination for global hospitality brands, the city is set to witness a transformative shift in its tourism and business landscape. The initiative is expected to generate substantial employment and strengthen Assam’s position as a key player in India’s hospitality sector.
