The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert predicting heavy rainfall in Assam and Meghalaya, while Uttar Pradesh braces for a heatwave in the coming days.
Heavy Rainfall Expected in Northeast India
According to the latest IMD bulletin, Assam and Meghalaya will experience widespread light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. The department has warned of isolated heavy downpours, which could lead to localized flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Residents in Guwahati, Shillong, and surrounding regions are advised to take precautions, as wind speeds may reach 50-60 kmph, with gusts up to 70 kmph.
Heatwave Alert for Uttar Pradesh
While the northeast prepares for heavy rains, Uttar Pradesh is set to experience intense heatwave conditions. The IMD has forecast temperatures soaring above 45°C in West UP and East UP, with heatwave warnings in effect until May 18.
Authorities have urged residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, and take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses.

- Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Himachal Pradesh will witness light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms on May 13-17.
