In a major military offensive, India struck critical Pakistani air installations, including the Chaklala airbase in Islamabad and the Sargodha airfield, as part of Operation Sindoor on May 7.
The Indian military confirmed that F-16 stations, air defense systems, training institutes, and command centers were hit in a series of precision strikes across Pakistan’s western front.
A senior Indian military official stated, “We struck swiftly and deliberately—targeting airbases, command centers, and military infrastructure. Chaklala, Rafi, Chakala—these are not just names; Chaklala is Islamabad. We hit Sargodha too—one of their most important F-16 airfields.”
The strikes were carried out in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives and injured dozens more. The Indian government described Operation Sindoor as a calibrated response to continued cross-border terrorism that has plagued the country for decades.
Following four days of intense conflict, India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on May 10, after pressure from the United States. However, just hours later, explosions erupted in border towns, with India accusing Pakistan of breaching the agreement.
Despite the ceasefire, government sources revealed that Operation Sindoor is not yet over, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi directing the armed forces to respond forcefully to any Pakistani misadventure.
“Operation Sindoor is not concluded; there is a new normal in India’s response to cross-border terrorism,” sources familiar with the matter stated.
The strikes mark one of the most significant military confrontations between India and Pakistan in nearly three decades, with both nations exchanging missile and drone strikes targeting each other’s military sites.
As tensions remain high, the world watches closely to see how the situation unfolds in the coming days.
