Like Father, Like Son: Rahul and Anvay Dravid Share the Crease in Club Match

In a heartwarming display of familial bonding and cricketing prowess, former India captain and coach Rahul Dravid took to the field alongside his son Anvay Dravid for Vijaya Cricket Club (Malur) in a Third Division (Group I) match for the Nassur Memorial Shield.

Rahul Dravid, who came in to bat at No. 6, contributed 10 runs off eight balls, including a boundary. However, it was his son Anvay who stole the spotlight with an impressive innings of 58 runs off 60 balls, featuring eight fours. Vijaya Cricket Club amassed a total of 345 for seven against Young Lions Club.

The standout performance for Vijaya Cricket Club came from Swapnil, who scored a scintillating 107 runs off just 50 balls, including 12 fours and four sixes. On the bowling front, AG Aditya took four wickets (4/60) for the Young Lions.

Anvay Dravid, a wicketkeeper-batter, is following in the footsteps of his illustrious father, while Samit, the elder son of Rahul Dravid, is a pace-bowling all-rounder.

Rahul Dravid, who was recently in Guwahati for the Rajasthan Royals’ pre-season camp, returned to the city just a couple of days ago to participate in the match.

Father-son duos have a storied history in cricket, with pairs like WG Grace and Grace Jr, Lala and Surinder Amarnath, Dennis and Adam Lillee, Denis and Heath Streak, Shivnarine and Tagenarine Chanderpaul, and Ian and Liam Botham, among others, having graced the sport.

The Dravid duo’s participation in the club match not only highlights the continuation of a cricketing legacy but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring cricketers. The shared experience on the field underscores the enduring bond between father and son, both dedicated to the sport they love.
