In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, law enforcement officials in Maheshkhola, Tripura, seized 1.06 lakh yaba tablets in a targeted operation on March 7, 2025. The raid, conducted by the West Tripura Police, also led to the arrest of two individuals, Shiban Hossain from Bishalgarh and Sanjay Mia from Chandni Mura. However, the prime suspect, Mohammad Babul Mia, remains at large.
The operation was initiated following confidential information received by the West Police Station about illegal activities in the Maheshkhola area. Acting swiftly, a police team was formed, resulting in the seizure of yaba tablets, two motorcycles, and four mobile phones. The contraband is estimated to be worth over ₹5 crore in the illegal market.
Dr. Kiran Kumar K, IPS, SP of West Tripura district, lauded the efforts of the police team and emphasized the importance of community cooperation in combating drug trafficking. “This successful operation marks a significant step in our ongoing battle against narcotics in the region,” he stated.
Authorities are continuing their investigation and have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to help maintain law and order. The operation highlights the growing challenge of drug trafficking in the Northeast and the need for sustained efforts to curb the menace.
