India’s senior pacer Mohammed Shami has been excluded from the 18-member squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England, with Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar citing fitness concerns as the primary reason.
Agarkar’s Statement on Shami’s Exclusion
During a press conference in Mumbai, Agarkar revealed that Shami’s workload is not where it needs to be, and despite efforts to regain fitness, he was not ready to play five Tests.
“We were hoping he would be available, but unfortunately, at the moment, he is not fully fit,” Agarkar stated.
Shami, who last played a Test match in June 2023 against Australia, has struggled with injuries and fitness issues over the past two years.
India’s Pace Attack for England Tour
With Shami ruled out, Jasprit Bumrah will lead India’s pace attack, supported by Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh. Shardul Thakur has also been recalled to strengthen the bowling lineup.
Shami’s Recent Performance and Recovery Efforts
Shami played nine matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025 before being rested due to a minor niggle. He also participated in one Ranji Trophy match for Bengal, where he picked up seven wickets, including a four-wicket haul.
India’s England Tour Schedule
