Marcus Stoinis Reveals COVID-19 Battle During IPL Break, Returns with Match-Winning Knock

Punjab Kings (PBKS) all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has revealed that he tested positive for COVID-19 during the IPL 2025 break while in Australia. Despite the setback, Stoinis returned to the field with a blistering 44-run knock off 16 balls against Delhi Capitals (DC), helping PBKS post 206/8 in their 20 overs.

Stoinis’ COVID-19 Diagnosis and Recovery

Speaking at the mid-innings break, Stoinis admitted that he did not train during the IPL pause, as he was recovering from COVID-19.

“I actually didn’t have any nets before this game. Unfortunately, I had COVID-19, which we don’t speak about much anymore. It was a nice welcome home. I rested at my home and then came back here,” Stoinis said.

Impactful Performance Against DC

Despite missing PBKS’ previous match against Rajasthan Royals, Stoinis made a strong comeback, smashing three fours and four sixes in his quickfire innings. His aggressive batting helped PBKS set a challenging target of 207 for DC.

PBKS’ Playoff Push and Stoinis’ Role

With PBKS aiming for a top-two finish, Stoinis’ return adds depth to their batting lineup. His ability to accelerate in the death overs has been a key asset for the team.
