NEET UG 2025 Returns to Pre-COVID Format; Assam CM Calls for Enhanced Security

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the NEET UG 2025 examination will revert to its pre-COVID format, a move aimed at streamlining the medical entrance process. Scheduled for May 4, 2025, the exam will require candidates to answer 180 mandatory questions within 180 minutes, eliminating the section-wise choice system introduced during the pandemic. The test will be conducted in 13 regional languages from 2 PM to 5 PM.

In light of these changes, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has emphasized the need for stringent security measures to ensure a fair and transparent examination process. Following a meeting with the NTA Director General and senior officials, Sarma highlighted concerns raised by Assam Police regarding unusually high scores observed at private exam centers in the state. These findings have prompted calls for tighter checks and reforms.

The Assam government has proposed several measures to uphold the integrity of the examination. Key recommendations include Aadhaar-based biometric verification of candidates, mandatory CCTV surveillance at all exam centers, and the restriction of examination venues to government and government-aided colleges. Additionally, the Chief Minister has suggested deploying senior civil and police officers to oversee the process and implementing a zero-tolerance policy toward malpractice.

Sarma reiterated the state’s commitment to maintaining transparency and fairness in the conduct of NEET UG 2025. “We are deploying all assets to ensure the highest level of integrity in this critical examination,” he stated.

These developments underscore the importance of safeguarding the credibility of one of India’s most competitive entrance exams, as students and stakeholders prepare for the upcoming test. Stay tuned for further updates on NEET UG 2025.
