Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif Calls for Neutral Investigation into Pahalgam Attack

Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his willingness to participate in a neutral, transparent, and credible investigation into the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives, including that of a Nepalese national. The attack, carried out on April 22, has escalated tensions between India and Pakistan, with both nations trading accusations.

Addressing a ceremony at the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul, Sharif criticized India for what he described as a “perpetual blame game” and urged for an end to baseless allegations. “Pakistan is open to participating in any neutral, transparent, and credible investigation,” he stated, emphasizing his country’s role as a responsible nation.

The attack, claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy group of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, has led to strong retaliatory measures from India, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. Sharif warned that any attempt to reduce Pakistan’s water share would provoke a “full-force response,” calling water a “vital national interest.”

Sharif’s remarks come amid heightened diplomatic and security tensions, with India accusing Pakistan of harboring and funding terror groups involved in cross-border infiltrations. In response, Pakistan has denied the allegations and called for international scrutiny to ensure impartiality.
