Pakistan Train Hijack: Baloch Separatists Kill 20 Soldiers, Take 182 Hostages in Attack on Peshawar-bound Train

Islamabad, Pakistan – March 12, 2025: A Peshawar-bound train was attacked and hijacked by Baloch separatists, resulting in the deaths of at least 20 soldiers and the capture of 182 hostages. The incident took place in Balochistan’s volatile Mach area, where armed insurgents opened fire on the train, forcing it to stop before seizing control.

According to local security officials, the heavily armed attackers launched a coordinated assault on the train, targeting security personnel aboard. Witnesses reported intense gunfire, causing chaos among passengers. The assailants overpowered security forces and took control of multiple carriages before leading the hostages to an undisclosed location.

The banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it was carried out in response to military operations in the province. The separatist group has been engaged in a long-standing insurgency against the Pakistani state, demanding independence for Balochistan, citing alleged exploitation of the region’s resources and human rights abuses by security forces.

Authorities have launched a large-scale military operation to track down the hijackers and rescue the hostages. Pakistan’s Interior Minister, speaking to the media, condemned the attack, calling it an act of terrorism and vowing a firm response. “We will not tolerate such heinous acts. Our forces are working tirelessly to secure the release of the hostages and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he said.

Meanwhile, families of the hostages are anxiously awaiting updates, urging the government to take swift action. International human rights organizations have also expressed concern over the escalating violence in Balochistan, calling for immediate efforts to de-escalate tensions and ensure the safety of civilians.

The attack marks one of the deadliest assaults by Baloch separatists in recent years, raising serious concerns about security in the region. As military operations intensify, the situation remains tense, with fears of further escalation.

This is a developing story. More updates will follow as further information becomes available.
