PCB Imposes Ban on Free Tickets for ICC Champions Trophy Amid Financial Pressure

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has implemented strict measures to address its financial needs as it hosts the ICC Champions Trophy. In a significant move, the PCB has halted its practice of allocating complimentary passes for international cricket events, a regular practice in the past. This decision aims to enhance ticketing revenue for the tournament.

*Ban on Complimentary Passes*

The PCB has enforced a ban on distributing free passes for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Apart from a few passes allocated to Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for sponsors and his guests, no other free tickets have been issued. This move is seen as a desperate bid to generate cash for the PCB’s treasury. “The PCB officials are facing a lot of pressure as those used to getting free passes are asking them for the freebies, but are being told that since the International Cricket Council controls the ticketing of the tournament there are no free passes,” a source privy to the ticketing process said.

*Challenges and Financial Measures*

Explaining the situation to government departments involved in the logistical aspects of organizing matches and VVIPs expecting free passes has been challenging. “This time, all the people you see in the enclosures in the stadium are paying customers, no freebies,” the source added.

*Mohsin Naqvi Sells VIP Box*

In a related move, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi sold his VIP hospitality box in Dubai, which was allocated for the India vs Pakistan clash. The 30-seater VIP box, valued at 400,000 dirhams (INR 94 lakhs), was sold to boost the PCB’s funds. Naqvi decided to watch the match from the stands with the fans, reliving how they used to support Pakistan during match days.

*Upcoming India vs Pakistan Clash*

The highly anticipated India vs Pakistan match is set to take place at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, February 23, 2025. This fixture promises to be an electrifying encounter, with both teams eager to secure a victory.

As the PCB navigates financial pressures, these measures reflect its commitment to ensuring the successful hosting of the ICC Champions Trophy while addressing its financial challenges. The tournament continues to captivate cricket fans worldwide, with every match contributing to the excitement and drama of the competition.
