Rishabh Pant’s Tactical Brilliance Behind Avesh Khan’s Final Over Heroics Against Rajasthan Royals

In a thrilling IPL 2025 encounter, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) edged past Rajasthan Royals (RR) with a nail-biting two-run victory, thanks to a masterful final over bowled by Avesh Khan. While Khan’s execution of yorkers under pressure was commendable, former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif believes Rishabh Pant’s strategic acumen played a crucial role in LSG’s triumph.

Kaif pointed out that Pant, known for his shrewd captaincy, employed delaying tactics to disrupt RR’s momentum in the final over. “The final over began at 11:07 PM IST and lasted 10 minutes, with intentional pauses—ball changes, run-up interruptions, and extended waiting times for the batters,” Kaif explained. He also drew parallels to Pant’s similar approach during the 2024 T20 World Cup final, where he slowed down proceedings to unsettle South African batters.

Despite RR needing just nine runs off the last over, Avesh Khan held his nerve, conceding only seven runs and securing a dramatic win for LSG. Pant, reflecting on the victory, emphasized the importance of such matches in building team character. “These kinds of matches take us to a different level. The bowlers held their nerves at the right time, and Avesh was fantastic,” he stated.

With this win, LSG continues its strong campaign, while Pant’s leadership further cements his reputation as a tactical mastermind in high-pressure situations.
