Rohit Shetty and John Abraham Team Up for Rakesh Maria Biopic

Renowned filmmaker Rohit Shetty, known for his blockbuster cop flicks like Singham, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi, is set to bring the incredible tale of one of India’s most famous and successful police officers, Rakesh Maria, to the big screen. Shetty’s next mainstream police drama will focus on the life and career of Maria, a supercop who played a pivotal role in some of the country’s most sensitive and high-stakes investigations.

According to Peeping Moon, John Abraham will portray Rakesh Maria in the film. Abraham, known for his dedication to his roles, will bring his A-game to this long-anticipated project. The actor’s portrayal of Maria is expected to offer a thrilling cinematic experience, blending Shetty’s signature style of intense, life-like storytelling with a harsh, realistic backdrop.

The film, which is currently in the pre-production stages, will be based on Maria’s memoir, Let Me Say It Now, released in 2020. Shetty plans to complete the project in a single, continuous 45-day schedule, with filming set to begin in the middle of next month. The filmmaker aims to finish filming by June 2025 and then move on to the following season of Khatron Ke Khiladi. Later that year, he will begin filming the highly anticipated Golmaal 5.

This biopic marks Shetty’s first foray into true-life storytelling, and he is collaborating closely with Maria to ensure an accurate portrayal of his brave journey. This film also represents the second time John Abraham will play a real-life police officer, the first being Sanjeev Kumar Yadav in the 2019 action thriller Batla House, directed by Nikkhil Advani. Abraham’s upcoming film The Diplomat also features him in a role based on true events, playing JP Singh, the former Deputy High Commissioner of India in Islamabad.

Rakesh Maria’s illustrious career and contributions to Indian policing are nothing short of remarkable. In 1994, Maria was awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, and in 2007, he received the President’s Medal for Outstanding Service. During his distinguished 36-year tenure with the Indian Police Service, he oversaw numerous high-profile investigations, including the Sheena Bora murder case, the 26/11 terror strikes in Mumbai, the 2008 crackdown on Indian Mujahideen modules, and the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts. His extraordinary contributions to law enforcement have forever changed the battle against crime and terrorism in India.

As anticipation builds for this biopic, audiences can look forward to a compelling depiction of Rakesh Maria’s life, showcasing his significant impact on Indian policing and his relentless pursuit of justice.
