Russia Invites PM Modi to Victory Day Parade Commemorating WW2 Anniversary

Russia has extended a formal invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the Victory Day Parade on May 9, 2025, in Moscow. The event marks the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II and is one of Russia’s most significant annual commemorations.

Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko confirmed the invitation, stating that arrangements for PM Modi’s participation are underway. The parade, held at the iconic Red Square, will also host leaders from several other friendly nations, emphasizing Russia’s diplomatic outreach.

Victory Day, celebrated annually on May 9, honors the Soviet Union’s pivotal role in defeating Nazi Germany. The day is marked by grand military parades, cultural events, and tributes to veterans, symbolizing resilience and unity.

PM Modi’s attendance at the parade is expected to further strengthen India-Russia relations, which are rooted in a “special and privileged strategic partnership.” The visit also comes ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s anticipated trip to India later this year, highlighting the ongoing dialogue and cooperation between the two nations.

As the world reflects on the sacrifices made during World War II, PM Modi’s presence at the Victory Day Parade underscores India’s commitment to honoring historical alliances and fostering global peace.
