Senior Congress leader and former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has stated that Article 370 created the perception that Jammu and Kashmir was separate from the rest of India. Speaking at an event in Indonesia, Khurshid emphasized that the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 marked the end of this long-standing issue.
Khurshid’s Perspective on Kashmir’s Progress
Khurshid highlighted that since the removal of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed increased prosperity and democratic participation. He pointed to the 65% voter turnout in recent elections as evidence of the region’s political stability.
Congress Leader’s Shift in Stance
Interestingly, Congress had initially opposed the Modi government’s decision to revoke Article 370. However, Khurshid’s remarks indicate a softened stance, acknowledging the positive developments in the region post-abrogation.
India’s Diplomatic Outreach
Khurshid is part of an all-party delegation visiting Indonesia as part of Operation Sindoor, a diplomatic initiative aimed at strengthening India’s global outreach. The delegation is engaging with international think tanks and policymakers to discuss India’s stance on regional security and counterterrorism.
