Renowned filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga, best known for directing the blockbuster Kabir Singh, has shared his perspective on Shahid Kapoor’s career choices. In a recent interview, Vanga expressed that an actor of Shahid Kapoor’s caliber should steer clear of remakes, despite the massive success of Kabir Singh, which itself was a Hindi adaptation of Vanga’s Telugu film Arjun Reddy.
“Shahid Kapoor jaise actor ko remake nahi karna chahiye (An actor like Shahid Kapoor should not do remakes). He’s such an original actor. That’s what I used to tell him so many times,” Vanga remarked during a conversation with Komal Nahta on the Game Changers podcast. He emphasized Shahid’s originality and unique acting prowess, suggesting that remakes might not fully showcase his talent.
When asked why Shahid was not considered for Vanga’s upcoming film Animal, the director explained that Ranbir Kapoor was his natural choice for the emotionally charged narrative. “When I thought about this emotional story, Ranbir only struck. It’s just organic. Because I felt he’ll be right,” Vanga stated.
Shahid Kapoor, who gained widespread acclaim for his role in Kabir Singh, has since appeared in several remakes, including Jersey and Deva. However, these projects failed to replicate the box office success of Kabir Singh. Vanga’s comments come at a time when remakes of South Indian films have faced mixed fortunes in Bollywood, with only a few exceptions like Drishyam 2 achieving notable success.
As Shahid Kapoor gears up for his next collaboration with Vishal Bhardwaj in Arjun Ustaara, fans eagerly await to see the actor in a fresh and original narrative. Meanwhile, Vanga continues to make waves in the industry with his ambitious projects, further solidifying his reputation as a visionary filmmaker.
