Lahore: Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has made a startling revelation about Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, claiming that Naqvi admitted to having no knowledge of cricket. Afridi shared these remarks during an interview with Samaa TV, sparking widespread debate about the leadership of Pakistan’s cricketing body.
Afridi stated that while Naqvi has undertaken commendable initiatives, such as improving stadium infrastructure, his lack of cricketing expertise raises concerns about the management of the sport in Pakistan. “I met the chairman sahab a few days ago in Lahore. He has worked on the grounds, and the Gaddafi Stadium looks beautiful. But he also said he doesn’t know anything about cricket,” Afridi revealed.
The former all-rounder emphasized the importance of involving technically skilled individuals in key roles within the PCB. He criticized the current selection committee and directors, describing them as bureaucrats with no connection to cricket. “Why are such individuals running the domestic cricket system? Strengthening the domestic structure is crucial for the national team’s success,” Afridi added.
Under Naqvi’s leadership, Pakistan cricket has faced significant challenges, including early exits in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. These setbacks have intensified scrutiny of the PCB’s governance and decision-making processes.
Afridi also expressed his willingness to contribute to grassroots cricket development, stating, “I don’t need a job or contract, but I am ready to help change the mindset of young cricketers at the grassroots level.”
The PCB has yet to respond to Afridi’s comments. The revelations have reignited discussions about the need for experienced cricket professionals to guide the sport’s future in Pakistan.
