Former Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram has praised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian Premier League (IPL) for their pivotal role in India’s recent cricketing success. Speaking on the “Dressing Room” show, Akram highlighted the stability and efficiency of the BCCI, contrasting it with the challenges faced by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Akram emphasized that the IPL has not only made the BCCI one of the wealthiest sporting bodies globally but has also contributed significantly to India’s cricketing depth. “They [India] are miles ahead of every team, and credit goes to everyone involved. The IPL generates substantial revenue, which is then distributed among state associations, ensuring a robust cricketing infrastructure,” Akram remarked.
The Indian cricket team recently clinched the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, defeating New Zealand in the final. This victory marked India’s second consecutive ICC white-ball trophy, following their T20 World Cup triumph in 2024. Akram noted that India’s dominance in ICC tournaments, with only one loss in their last 24 matches, is a testament to their depth and leadership.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan also expressed admiration for India’s extraordinary bench strength. Taking to social media, Vaughan suggested that even a second-string Indian team could have reached the ICC Champions Trophy final. “The strength in Indian cricket in white-ball is off the scale,” Vaughan wrote, listing players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, and Jasprit Bumrah as part of a hypothetical “B-team” capable of competing at the highest level.
India’s consistent performance across formats has put the spotlight on the BCCI’s management and the IPL’s role in nurturing talent. As the cricketing world marvels at India’s depth, the Men in Blue continue to set new benchmarks in the sport.
