The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Tripura, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall from June 16 to 18, as two active cyclonic circulations develop over the region.
Cyclonic Systems Trigger Weather Alert
Meteorologists have identified:
- A cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal, extending up to 7.6 km above sea level.
- Another system over Central Assam at around 4.5 km altitude.
These systems are expected to draw significant moisture into Tripura, increasing the likelihood of intense rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
District-Wise Alerts & Precautions
- Orange Alert (Severe Weather):
- June 16: Sepahijala and South Tripura
- June 17–18: West Tripura and Gomati
- Yellow Alert (Moderate Risk): Issued for remaining districts
Authorities have urged residents in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant. Farmers, fishermen, and travelers have been advised to avoid risky activities during the forecast period.
