In a significant step towards supporting underprivileged families, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has launched a low-cost midday meal service for the families and attendants of patients at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital. The initiative, introduced in collaboration with the Rogi Kalyan Samiti and the Rotary Club, aims to provide nutritious meals at a nominal cost of ₹10.
The meal service, which includes rice, dal, vegetables, and egg curry, is designed to ease the financial burden on families accompanying patients from across the state. Speaking at the launch event, CM Saha emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Patients and their families often face long waiting hours and food-related challenges. This service is a step towards alleviating their struggles and ensuring they have access to affordable, wholesome meals.”
The Chief Minister also announced plans to construct a shelter house for families traveling from remote areas for treatment at GBP Hospital. This facility will provide accommodation and further reduce the hardships faced by patients’ families.
The initiative aligns with the state government’s commitment to welfare and inclusivity, reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of supporting economically disadvantaged communities. CM Saha expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in making this program a reality and reiterated the government’s dedication to enhancing healthcare services in Tripura.
This affordable meal service is expected to benefit thousands of families and stands as a testament to the state’s efforts to prioritize the well-being of its citizens.
