Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has inaugurated a ₹67 crore tourism infrastructure development project in Gomati district, aimed at enhancing eco-tourism and cultural heritage in the region.
Project Overview
The initiative, part of the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded Tripura Urban and Tourism Development Project (TUTDP), focuses on upgrading key tourist destinations, including Chabimura, Fatik Sagar, and Amar Sagar.
Key Developments
- Chabimura, known for its ancient rock carvings along the Gomati River, will undergo infrastructure improvements to attract more visitors.
- Fatik Sagar and Amar Sagar will see enhancements such as modern cafeterias, boating facilities, pathways, and 16 state-of-the-art cottages.
- The project aligns with Tripura’s broader strategy to position itself as a gateway to Southeast Asia, leveraging improved connectivity via Chittagong Port in Bangladesh.
Government’s Vision
CM Saha emphasized that the initiative will boost tourism, create employment opportunities, and preserve Tripura’s rich cultural heritage. Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury highlighted the steady rise in tourist footfall, with arrivals increasing from 5 lakh in FY24 to 7 lakh in FY25.
Future Plans
The Tripura government is also considering the deployment of tourist police to ensure safety and security for visitors. Additionally, the Centre has sanctioned ₹97.7 crore for the development of 51 Shakti Peeths under the Swadesh Darshan scheme.
