On the occasion of World Health Day 2025, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized the urgent need to address critical social and health challenges, including drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, and child marriage. Speaking at a rally organized by the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura (HFT) in Agartala, CM Saha underscored the interconnected nature of these issues and their impact on building a healthier society.
With the theme “Healthy Beginning, Hopeful Future,” the rally saw participation from doctors, nurses, health workers, students, and members of the public. CM Saha, who also holds the Health and Family Welfare portfolio, expressed concern over the rising prevalence of HIV/AIDS in the state, particularly among injectable drug users. He highlighted the importance of reducing drug abuse to curb the spread of the virus and improve public health outcomes.
The Chief Minister also flagged early child marriage as a significant concern, calling for greater awareness and preventive measures to protect the well-being of young girls. “These are not just health concerns but major social challenges that hinder the progress of our society,” he stated.
As part of the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure, CM Saha announced plans to establish a dedicated eye hospital in Tripura. He also encouraged residents to utilize the state’s growing super-specialty medical facilities, reducing the need for costly treatments outside the region.
Renowned physician and HFT founder Dr. Pradip Bhowmik echoed the Chief Minister’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of maternal healthcare and the prevention of child marriage. He called for adopting healthy lifestyle practices to ensure the well-being of future generations.
The rally, which marched through key streets of Agartala, served as a platform to spread messages about good health practices, mental well-being, and social awareness. Observed globally on April 7, World Health Day commemorates the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO) and draws attention to pressing health issues worldwide. This year’s event in Tripura highlighted the state’s commitment to tackling its unique challenges and fostering a healthier, more inclusive society.
