Tripura Court Sends Five Bangladeshi Nationals to 12-Day Judicial Custody

A local court in Kailashahar, Tripura, has sent five Bangladeshi nationals to 12 days of judicial custody after they were caught crossing the international border without valid documents.

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested three individuals, including a one-year-old child, on May 10 in Depachhara village. During interrogation, they revealed the whereabouts of two more Bangladeshi nationals, who were later arrested in Machmara, Pecharthal Police Station area.

Authorities confirmed that all five individuals are residents of Moulvibazar district in Bangladesh and have connections with Indian householders. They were produced before the Unakoti District Court on May 11, which remanded them to judicial custody until May 22.

Meanwhile, Tripura police have launched an investigation against a former Upa-Pradhan (Deputy Chief of Panchayat) of Nurpur village in Kailashahar for allegedly posting pro-Pakistan content on social media, following a complaint by Tripura Pradesh Congress.

The arrests highlight ongoing concerns over illegal border crossings, with authorities continuing to monitor and strengthen security measures in the region.
